Random update of sorts
Aug. 7th, 2004 06:08 pmOkay, so I so rarely post in this thing cause I am weird like that.
Anyway, wanted to give the news that I got a new full time job and started today, have my first day of actual work tomorrow.
Of course, the fun part was, I got my schedule after I went and got my schedule for my old job at Michaels. Schedules totally conflicted and I had to call Michaels and tell them I would be unable to work most of it because I have a new job.
While I felt bad that I had to break that to the manager, I don't feel totally bad, as they put me in the crappy situation I have been in the past few months by giving me 5 hours a week some weeks. I am sick and tired of being more than flat broke for two weeks out of the month because of that.
So in three weeks I will see my first paycheck from my new job at Wal Mart. I am now working full time in their seasonal department. Will be nice working 5 days a week for 8 hours a day and actually seeing money besides what I need to eat and pay rent.
So it looks like as long as I can get the time off, I will indeed be able to afford ICC now. From what I remember, at full time, even minimum wage will pay the bills. And while I don't know what my pay is going to be, I don't think its going to be minimum wage. I also will finally have benefits and can get a limited set until I am there 6 months starting today. I am definitely happy about that, and am sure my parents will be ecstatic to hear that I am finally not working a complete and utter crap job now.
And for anyone who would even consider working at Michaels, don't do it. It was a decent company to work for at first, but after seeing that I would never get any benefits, would get crap for hours, and the chances of my going full time were very minimal, but yet they will happily hire on more part timers rather than give their current people full time status, I am a bit pleased that I got to basically tell them where to go and leave them in a seriously tight spot this week.
Tomorrow is gonna suck though, cause I gotta work part of the shift I was scheduled for, and the managers are likely to be very upset with me for what I had to do. I am of the opinion though that they had their notice awhile ago when I told my department manager that if I found full time work, I was leaving, as simple as that. Now I think they will wish they took me more seriously when I made those comments.
