Meme and random

I'm really hating LJ right now. Ever since the damn server move, I've been unable to view almost everything on LJ with my preferred browser. I'm using Firefox for it now, and I would prefer not to. It's annoying to have to swap out between two RP accounts and this one. I'd rather have this account working in Google Chrome and keep Firefox up for one RP and the other things I use it for.

Of course, my luck is that I can't view this journal at all in there. I can view two of my RP journals, but the moment I try to look at an LJ cut or login, it does that stupid redirect to status.livejournal.org. So I can't even opt to switch things around. Sheesh, I like having my RP accounts in seperate browsers, it can take me a few hours to write a response and I dislike being unable to check my friends page while I'm working on that.

Of course, support wasn't extremely helpful so far. Had to wait almost a day for them to tell me to clear my cache. Hello, I said I did that already. In Firefox and Chrome, when you go to clear browsing history, cache is selected by default, it is one of the items involved in there. That isn't the answer to everything like they think it is. Though at the same time, I feel for the support folks, they have a ton of problems with pages not viewing right since the move.

Next I bet they are going to say that because Chrome is still in beta, they can't support it. Screw that, it worked perfectly fine except for that random weird glitch when someone forgot to close a size tag where it would carry for the rest of the page. Now that the server moved, it won't work the way it was. That is LJ's problem, not mine and not Google's (though I did report it as a bug to google also). Everyone knows Google loves releasing decent product as a beta so they don't have to claim responsibility if something goes wrong, like with gmail, best damn webmail out there, still technically beta. Chrome works quite well, it just doesn't have as many features as I would like it to have and some javascript is buggy. Well, guess what, the same is true of IE (I get script error boxes like crazy despite my having the option to show those disabled).

So hey you LJ bigwigs, stop trying to fix what ain't broke already! You're just pissing off a bunch of users who were perfectly fine and happy before.

Here, try this. This is for Windows XP. It should be something similar for other Windows OS (unless you're not using Windows? O.o

Go to the drive where your OS is installed in. Go to the Windows->system32->drivers->etc folder. Look for a file named hosts (it has no extension). Open it with notepad. Then add in this line (208.93.0.128 www.livejournal.com), just below the localhost (127.0.0.1 localhost)(yes, you need to leave some space in between the IP address and the domain name, use the localhost line as a guideline) and save the file. This will allow you to by pass the DNS server and allow you to surf their website using their IP address (you still do everything as per normal when using your web browser, as in you type the URL normally).

Same thing.

I wish they would just take down the redirect already so I can get an error message, that would be more helpful than the redirect is.

Hmm, it didn't help work huh? I'm not sure what other suggestions I can give you. Maybe you can try rebooting your computer and/or flushing your DNS.

In DOS command prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns

Restarting seems to have magically fixed it. Weird, that is almost never the case with issues like that. And I still can't think of how it could have been an issue on one site alone with one browser and restarting actually worked. Unless my page file defrag helped.

Technology sure is weird sometimes, it really can defy logic.

Yeah, I know. Technology can just suddenly get temperamental on you too -__-"
